The first nations power authority got a big boost today from the federal government.

Western Diversification minister, Michelle Rempel, announced $300,000 in support to help fund demonstration projects of renewable power generation.

Rempel made the announcement at the Saskatchewan science centre in Regina.

She says the practical benefits and opportunities offered to First Nations are a model that could one day be expanded.

The First Nations power authority is working with the File Hills Tribal Council on one of the projects that will receive funding.

It’s a solar power generating station in southern Saskatchewan.

Edmund Bellegarde represents the tribal council on the project.

“It is truly about building capacity but it’s also about changing the business landscape it’s about opening doors.”

Those doors involve partnerships between first nations communities,  Saskpower, and industry leaders.
