Corrections Canada is investigating the death of a prisoner from the Willow Cree Healing Lodge.
56 year-old Kenneth Obey was serving a two-year and eight-month sentence for impaired driving and driving while disqualified.
He began serving his sentence in June.
Jeff Campbell is the regional communications manager for Corrections Canada.
He says Obey wasn’t actually at the lodge when he died, but rather at a Regina hospital:
“I can’t say a cause of death because that review is still ongoing but no indication of a suspicious death.”
Campbell wouldn’t go into details citing privacy restrictions, but says sometimes inmates go on temporary absences from Willow Cree to seek out medical care.
