England’s elite Oxford University could be the destination for two University of Saskatchewan students this coming fall.
The U of S has partnered with Oxford’s St. Anne’s College as part of a new exchange program.
Gingi Sheppard, the manager of the International Student and Study Abroad Centre, says the university’s Aboriginal programming was a big reason why it was selected.
“From a European perspective, a lot of those countries don’t have programs like that because they don’t actually have an Indigenous base of people in their country, so they find that really interesting,” she says.
She adds students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.7 to be considered but the university is trying to make the program as financially accessible as possible.
“The goal is to get the funding to the point where students’ costs would be the same as if it were to come to the U of S for a year.”
The U of S is the only Canadian university that has been chosen to partner with St. Anne’s.
Aside from the GPA requirements, students must be full time and in the second year of their studies to qualify.
St. Anne’s will take in a total of 30 visiting undergraduate students out of an academic body of 425.
The school is mainly an arts and social sciences college.
The U of S has collected nine eligible applicants which will be sent to Oxford for consideration next month.
