A resolution calling on SaskPower to provide every northern community with a backup generator to lessen the impact of power outages was passed at the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association convention Tuesday.
With only one power line going into northern Saskatchewan, outages have long been a source of frustration for local residents.
The resolution was put forward by the Village of Air Ronge.
Another controversial resolution which called for all municipal candidates to receive some form of administrative training before being eligible to run for election in northern Saskatchewan was withdrawn before it hit the convention floor.
The SUMA convention is being held in Regina.
