This week’s FSIN Winter Legislative Assembly will likely be dominated by recent headlines.

The two-day gathering is getting underway this morning at the Dakota Dunes Casino.

This is the first assembly since the FSIN announced it would be forced to layoff 66 staff at the end of March because of federal funding cuts.

Earlier this week, the provincial government confirmed plans to sell Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw to SIGA — but the deal might not go ahead because it’s not supported by the Opposition.

Last week, the federal government unveiled its retooled First Nations Control of First Nations Education Act.

And just yesterday, news broke that the CEO of the upcoming North American Indigenous Games in Regina has been forced to go on leave because of allegations of harassment filed by three female employees.

Glen Pratt is a former FSIN vice-chief and former chief of the George Gordon First Nation.
