A 21-year-old man has been released from custody after pleading guilty to criminal negligence causing death.
Dannie Justin Knife was charged following the death of Christian Bird from the Ahtahkakoop First Nation.
The 25-year-old was found clinging to a piece of ice on Sandy Lake on May 1, 2011.
Bird was eventually pulled from the water but did not survive.
Four people were eventually charged, including Knife.
He was facing a charge of second-degree murder but entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge this week in Prince Albert Provincial Court.
Knife was handed a sentence of time served and probation.
In December, three other suspects, all of whom were under the age of 18, pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing death.
They received sentences between six, nine and 10 months incarceration followed by differing periods of open custody and a year probation.
