La Ronge will be home to a new Giant Tiger store this summer but the new store will still be operated by the North West Company.
The opening of the new store will be Aug. 23 and it will be in the same location on La Ronge Avenue.
Giant Tiger manager of public relations and community activation Alison Scarlett says the renovation will take about four months.
“It will be given what we call the Giant Tiger new store experience which will involve changing the fixtures, changing paint and also making very clearly defined areas and merchandising it to a Giant Tiger store look,” she says.
Scarlett says some items specific to the north like traps and canoes may be available at the new store if the demand is there.
“We are able to vary our assortment by location so if that is something the location dictates and if North West as the franchise owner thinks will do well in that area, they are certainly able to cater the assortment based on geographic location.”
Scarlett says she doesn’t think it should cause too many problems with the store being closed for most of the tourist season.
The new store will have about 25 employees and workers at the current North Mart store will be offered jobs in the new location.
