A young Pelican Narrows student was one of the recipients at Prince Albert’s Badge of Respect and Peace Awards yesterday.
Sixteen-year-old Karilyn Sewap is a student at Wesmor Community High School. Sewap was recognized for her work with the High School Emergency Services Response Training Program:
“I felt proud of myself and the other students — and also really nervous.”
The program was announced last year to introduce high school students to careers in emergency services.
Prince Albert Police Chief Troy Cooper says it is important to acknowledge the efforts of the young students:
“These kids didn’t act in a way hoping for recognition. They just are good kids and they follow the rules and they help their neighbours and they showed respect, empathy and peace.”
The Badge of Respect and Peace Awards are given out annually. The ceremony is coordinated by the Prince Albert and Area Community Against Family Violence Program.
