The search was scheduled to continue today on the South Saskatchewan River for the body of a man believed to have drowned earlier this year.
In February, 28-year-old Gregory Myles MacIntosh, went missing after his stag party and Saskatoon police believe he fell through the ice into the water.
A witness saw a person fall into the river, and several days later blood was found in the same location.
Leon Charles from Grandmother’s Bay is one of 10 northern volunteers taking part in the latest search effort.
He says the goal is to locate the man’s remains, and provide closure for the family:
“We are here, and also a few of the family members are here in the boats helping us — which is really good to see.”
Charles says they are using a sonar device which was acquired by the Lac La Ronge Indian Band this past winter for use in underwater searches.
The northern volunteers are scheduled to keep searching until Saturday if needed, and have been accompanied by personnel from the Saskatoon fire department.
