SheNative Goods made it into the top ten business concepts of 2014.
Winners were recently announced for the Saskatchewan Business Challenge and SYPE-Silver Spades Awards.
Even though SheNative didn’t win an award, its business concept make into the top ten.
SheNative is a brand of handbags and accessories dedicated to empowering Indigenous women in Canada.
The Saskatchewan Business Challenge is an entrepreneurship development program that increases start-up success through training mentorship and networking opportunities
SheNative owner Devon Fiddler is from the Waterhen Lake First Nation and she says the competition was fierce.
“Not a whole lot of Aboriginal companies make it to the very end and get to stay with that caliber of competitors in these competitions,” she says. “It was a really competitive competition and it was over a six-month period so it was a pretty good experience.”
Fiddler says she plans on continuing to empower Indigenous women by providing them with positive opportunities to be part of her business.
