A new cultural space has been designed at the Pine Grove Correctional Centre in Prince Albert with the goal of promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging strong cultural and spiritual identities amongst the institution’s female inmates.

A blessing ceremony for the cultural centre took place Thursday morning with Corrections and Policing Minister Christine Tell in attendance.

Tell says she hopes the new facility can provide a strong sense of culture and spirituality to women currently in the rehabilitation process.

“It provides people with a better chance of successfully reintegrating back into their communities and helps reduce the risk of re-offending,” she says.

The new centre will also allow for more additional programming at Pine Grove with the additional space.
