A recent study by the Fraser Institute is being called into question by the First Nations Education Council.
The council says the recent study does not take into account key factors when determining school funding.
The study says First Nations schools are as well funded as provincial schools and education reform must come before increased funding.
However, the education council says the report gives no consideration of socio-economic conditions, special needs, minority language issues, isolation and school size – all of which are conditions First Nations students face on a regular basis.
The council says it is not opposed to educational reform but it must be done under First Nations control.
