The excitement level was high Wednesday at the Kraft Celebration Tour in Prince Albert.
Not only did the Kinsmen Water Park receive a $25,000 cheque from the tour, it also hosted a live broadcast of TSN’s Sports Centre.
“Welcome to Prince Albert!” screamed the hundreds of fans gathered in the rain at the park as the broadcast began.
The several hundred people in the park braved the rain Wednesday afternoon to be a part of the day’s events.
After Kraft gave the cheque to the city, Peg Flemming of Kraft Canada said how happy they were to be there.
“We believe that healthy living starts with having places to play. We are so proud to be able to share in the funding and support to save our slides and help out the Kinsmen Water Park, so thank you for having us today,” Flemming says.
Prince Albert Mayor Greg Dionne was also thankful for everyone who voted to make the event possible.
“I really want to appreciate the committee who put everything together, the people who nominated us and all the volunteers who helped out,” he says. “The weather does not bother us hear in Saskatchewan.”
The park will now have to wait and see if it is eligible for the $100,000 grand prize to be given away next week.
The expected repair cost for the water slides is $260,000.
The City of Prince Albert has committed to providing $60,000 for repairs.
The ‘Save Our Summer, Save Our Slides’ committee, the group that organized the event, is hoping private investors will step up to help with the rest of the repair cost.
According to Shannon Hurl, chair of the committee, people in Prince Albert have been missing the slides.
