A public inquest into the death of a man who died in a Saskatoon jail cell almost two years ago will be held next week.

Douglas Morissette was arrested by Saskatoon police in January 2013 for public intoxication.

The 57-year-old was taken to police cells where he spent the night in jail.

Police say Morissette was assessed upon his arrival and was checked on during the night before being found dead the following morning.

The inquest will take place at the Sandman Hotel in Saskatoon beginning on Monday.

Coroner Robert Kennedy will preside.
