Police have charged a male youth after a student at a La Ronge school was allegedly threatened with a weapon Monday.
RCMP were called to Bell’s Point School after receiving reports of a youth carrying a handgun.
It is believed the weapon was an air pistol.
The student does not attend the school but was apparently threatening a child under the age of 12 who did.
The school was locked down, Mounties called and the situation ended without incident.
Lac La Ronge Indian Band Director of Education Jerry Guillet met with staff after the incident and says they are coping well.
“Well everything appears to be just fine, they carried on with their regular activities and duties and I think things were okay,” he says.
Guillet says there will be a review of security measures as a result of the incident.
The youth has been charged with one count of pointing a firearm and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.
He has been released to his parents.
