Heritage Canada has announced funding to Missinipi Broadcasting Corporation for the production and broadcast of radio programming in
English, Cree and Dene for Aboriginal listeners throughout Saskatchewan.

MBC CEO Deborah A. Charles stated: “Missinipi Broadcasting Corporation is grateful for the continued support given to its Aboriginal Languages Programming and takes pride in its major role played in enhancing and preserving the languages of Canada’s Aboriginal peoples”.  Ms. Charles also said, “We deeply appreciate the direct support given to aboriginal culture and with the continued support from the Department of Canadian Heritage we will continue to fulfill our mandate to preserve and protect our languages”.

The funding will contribute to Missinipi Broadcasting Corporation’s production and broadcasting of a variety of local radio programs and features done in Cree and Dene languages. Radio programming in traditional languages such as Cree and Dene is an important means of ensuring they are
seen and heard as living languages within Aboriginal communities of Saskatchewan.

The Government of Canada has provided $317,880.00 in funding through the Aboriginal Peoples’ Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage,
which supports the full participation of Aboriginal peoples in Canadian society, and the promotion, revitalization, and preservation of Aboriginal languages and cultures.  It also helps enable Aboriginal peoples to address the social, cultural, economic and political issues affecting their lives.
