Northern Saskatchewan’s McClean Lake mill began production of high-grade uranium from the Cigar Lake mine today.

The mill is owned by Areva Resources.

Once it is at full capacity, the mill will produce 18 million pounds of uranium per year starting in 2018.

Areva Resources Canada CEO Vincent Martin says the project has been a number of years in the making and this is a big day for Saskatchewan.

“So that’s a very big event for us — the result of a massive investment both at the mine and the mill. And we are happy to see that transform into real production that will add value to the province.”

Cameco’s Cigar Lake mine began shipping high-grade ore to McClean Lake in March.
