The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations is demanding an apology from Conservative MP Rob Clarke for comments he made alleging First Nation political organizations take a cut from money destined for on-reserve child and family services.
Clarke, who represents the riding of Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River, made the claims during APTN’s political show “Nation to Nation”.
He said First Nations organizations, such as the AFN and the FSIN, take a seven to 10 per cent cut off money destined for child welfare.
In a release from the FSIN, Vice Chief Kimberly Jonathan says the “FSIN has not and does not receive any funding destined for child welfare services from any government”.
The AFN has also released a statement, saying it is reviewing Clarke’s claim to determine whether it warrants legal action.
According to APTN, Clarke said he wouldn’t apologize and that his statements were taken out of context.
