Prince Albert Grand Council says Rob Clarke needs to “get the right facts” before making comments about First Nations accountability.
In an appearance last week on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network, the northern Saskatchewan Conservative MP said the Assembly of First Nations, Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and other tribal councils take administrative fees from funding directed toward Indian Child and Family Services.
In a release issued Wednesday, Grand Chief Ron Michel says the PAGC does assist ICFS agencies but they are stand-alone organizations which get their funding directly from Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada.
The Grand Chief says Clarke’s comments only serve to increase negative perceptions of First Nations accountability.
Clarke has said his remarks were taken out of context and that he will not apologize.
