The Pasqua First Nation is praising a recent court decision.
According to a press release from the band, a judge dismissed a motion by the Saskatchewan government Thursday to prevent the federal government from hearing a Treaty Land Entitlement dispute.
The band claims the federal and provincial governments have failed to make Crown lands and minerals available for purchase to Pasqua as stipulated in the TLE agreement.
The Pasqua band also says both levels of government claiming they have violated the TLE agreement by making lands and minerals available to third party interests without first consulting the First Nation.
Chief Todd Peigan says they are pleased the courts have provided some clarity on the case.
It remains to be seen whether the provincial government will appeal the decision.
