The Saskatchewan Research Council has been granted a ten-year licence to clean up the Gunnar uranium mine site in northern Saskatchewan.

The waste nuclear substance licence has been granted by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

In granting the licence, CNSC says SRC’s environmental assessment report meets requirements for protection of the environment, health and safety of persons.

SRC presented the report during public hearings in Ottawa last November.

The Gunnar mine site has been closed since 1965.

It was in operation from 1955 to 1963.
