The Transportation Safety Broad is moving ahead with plans to conduct a Safety Issues Investigation into air taxi operations in Canada.
Officials say the air taxi sector, which includes float plane operations, has seen 175 deaths over the last 10 years which amounts to 65-percent of all commercial aviation fatalities.
TSB spokesperson Peter Hildebrand says it will be a broad-ranging investigations into many incidents and will take some time.
“It’s just getting started and our terms of reference are being worked on right now. And then it’s going to get rolling after that. So it’s going to be quite some time into the future before that’s ever wrapped up. It’s just going to get started early in the New Year now.”
Hildebrand says results of the report into a Transwest Air fatal float plane crash in 2013 which was released last week, will be among the occurences included in the Safety Issues Investigation.
