The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority has elected a new chair of their board of directors.

Chief Reginald Bellerose of the Muskowekan First Nation began serving as chair on Feb. 4.

“It’s a prestigious role to accept,” he says. “I feel very fortunate to be able to work at this level and in this role.”

The new chair also says he plans to continue SIGA’s role of creating employment and generating revenue for First Nations bands.

“We want to generate our own source revenue as First Nations. This is one of the key drivers to our net profit of around $80 million of which 50 per cent goes out to the First Nations Trust and then out to the First Nations.”

Chief Bellerose has served on the SIGA board of directors since 2008.

This is his tenth year as chief of Muskowekan.
