Officials at West Wind Aviation are investigating after one of its aircraft made an emergency landing last week.

The incident at the Buffalo Narrows airport happened last Thursday afternoon, shortly after the twin-engine turboprop left the airport.

Company spokesperson Allison Murawsky says the charter flight was on its way to Ile a la Crosse when a sensor indicated there may be a problem with a cargo door.

“The incident occurred at approximately 12:34 pm.  There were six passengers and two crew members on board.  The crew followed procedures, declared an emergency and returned to base, where all the passengers de-planed.  West Wind Aviation is currently investigating the incident and has reported it to the Transportation Safety Board.”

Murawski says the Beech 1900C was taken out of service to be checked over, but has since been returned to service.

Transportation Safety Board investigator Eckhard Dittbenner says an inspection of the aircraft turned up no mechanical problems.

“They’ve established there were no technical difficulties with the aircraft.  They’re still doing what’s called a safety management system investigation into it — and as far as the company is concerned, that investigation is still ongoing.”

Dittbenner says occurances like this must be reported to his department, but a TSB investigation will not be conducted.
