Northern Saskatchewan MP Rob Clarke has been cleared of conflict of interest allegations regarding a company he co-owns with a fellow Conservative caucus member.
In an email to MBC Radio, a spokesperson for Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner Mary Dawson says, “Commissioner Dawson has completed her preliminary review and determined that an inquiry is not warranted.”
The official does not say why the conflict of interest commissioner has decided against proceeding with an investigation.
In late December, Newfoundland Liberal MP Scott Simms filed a formal complaint with the commissioner’s office alleging Clarke and Winnipeg Conservative MP Rod Bruinooge were in conflict of interest by voting in favour of a bill that would allow the use of electronic devices at polling stations.
The two Conservative MPs have an ownership stake in a piece of software called ProxiVote which allows political canvassers to keep in touch with each other and keep track of which supporters have cast ballots during an election.
