A northern Saskatchewan woman has written to her MLA about a huge bill she recently received from SaskPower.

Earlier this month, Hatchet Lake resident Anne Robillard got a monthly power bill in the amount of $11,500.

Robillard was able to convince SaskPower it had made a mistake and the bill has since been adjusted to $534.

While she’s willing to pay this amount, she’s concerned some elderly northerners who don’t speak English are simply paying similar bills when overcharged rather than fighting them.

“Some of them can’t speak for themselves and then all they do is try to get help through the band office and some may be forced to pay them amount without making adjustments,” she says.

Robillard says she pays anywhere from $250 to $350 per month in the winter for power despite using wood heat.

She figures her recent bill was over $500 because she has to continuously run a space heater in a crawl space in her home recently.
