People interested in marketing wild food products in the north have a chance to learn more about the business this Saturday in La Ronge.
An event organized by the Saskatchewan Herb and Spice Association will look at foods with commercial potential and include a food safety certification course.
SHSA Executive Director Connie Kehler says the morning starts off with a guest speaker from Quebec who has been successful in wild food marketing and the afternoon features a food safety certification course designed by people in the industry.
“It will help people address the risks that are out there, find the highest risks that are out there in collecting and then keep your paper work to a minimum,” she says.
Kehler says some of the best wild food products in Canada can be found in the La Ronge area.
“There is a wide range of mushrooms out there and very many berries, we were talking earlier this year to buyers in B.C. and they were both very excited about the La Ronge area for berries and for mushrooms.”
The event is free and runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the La Ronge Inn.
Those planning to attend the afternoon certification course should pre-register by calling 306-425-2659.
