The Harper government announced $240,000 in new funding today that will go toward Aboriginal Friendship Centres of Saskatchewan, the City of Saskatoon and the Saskatchewan School Boards Association.
The money is part of the Urban Aboriginal Strategy and will flow through Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development.
The overall goal of the strategy is to increase the participation of Indigenous people in the Canadian economy.
Saskatchewan’s 11 friendship centres will get about $83,000 to participate in an Urban Aboriginal Strategic Plan.
The City of Saskatoon will receive approximately $75,000 for its Aboriginal Employment Partnership Initiative and the SSBA $82,000 to improve outcomes of Indigenous students.
