**UPDATE** — At the time of the publication of this story, PBCN election officials indicated there were four unofficial candidates for chief. They now say there are three candidates in the running — Peter A. Beatty, Darrell McCallum and Karen Bird.
There are four unofficial candidates in the upcoming Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation chief election.
Incumbent Peter Beatty will be facing former chief Darrell McCallum and fellow challengers Karen Bird of Southend and Bill Parenteau of Prince Albert.
The four were nominated earlier this week.
Beatty has been the chief for two years. McCallum served as Peter Ballantyne’s chief for six years before opting not to run in the 2013 vote.
The election will be held in seven communities on April 14th.
PBCN previously held elections every two years, but the winners in next month’s vote will serve three-year terms in office following changes to the band’s election act.
