A public inquest will be held next month into a tragedy on Kahkewistahaw First Nation nearly two years ago.

In August of 2013, 6 year-old Lee Allen Bonneau had been found badly injured on the reserve and later died.

Police ruled his death a homicide and arrested another boy under the age of 12 in relation to Bonneau’s death.

Because of his age the boy cannot be held criminally responsible and has since been placed under the care of the Ministry of Social Services.

Lee Bonneau was in the foster care system at the time of his death.

He was visiting Kahkewistahaw with his foster mother when the tragedy took place.

The inquest will allow a coroner’s jury to hear all the evidence around Bonneau’s death in order to make recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future.

The inquest will begin on April 6th in Regina.
