A rally is planned in Saskatoon tomorrow to protest Bill C-51, the federal government’s new anti-terrorism legislation.

Organizers for the protest say the new bill aims to label small examples of civil disobedience and activism as terrorism.

They say they do not want to feel afraid in their own country.

The protesters will be joined by Nina Wilson, a founding member of Idle No More, as well as other social justice activists.

AFN National Chief Perry Bellegarde added his voice to the proposed legislation earlier this week.

Bellegarde told a Commons committee reviewing the bill that it sets up “conditions for conflict” where First Nations people asserting their rights will be labelled as threats.

Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney says the bill is not aimed at capturing minor violations committed during legitimate protests.

There are also federal assurances Bill C-51 won’t be a licence to spy on activists.

The march will begin at 2 pm at City Hall with the protesters walking to the office of Conservative MP Kelly Block, who voted in favour of the bill.
