A young woman from North Dakota has been selected as the new Miss Indian World.

The annual pageant wrapped up on the weekend in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Cheyenne Brady from New Town, North Dakota finished in first place.

Each contestant competed in the areas of public speaking, personal interview, traditional talent, dance and essay.

This year there were 21 contestants including eight from Canada.

The Miss Indian World Pageant is held each year in conjunction with the Gathering of Nations Pow Wow.
