Aboriginal youth interested in taking part in this year’s Bold Eagle Program have about two weeks to submit their applications.

The program runs each summer at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright, Alberta and is open to First Nations people between the ages of 16 and 29 in western Canada.

Bold Eagle Coordinator, Warrant Officer Robyn Burke says it is the 26th year of the program and it has been very successful.

“it’s a life changer for a lot of kids that they can walk away after the program and have something on their resume as opposed to being one of those kids that plays on x-box or play station and stays at home all summer, they are going to make an income”.

Each Bold Eagle participant will be paid four-thousand dollars for the six-week program

Robyn Burke says all the necessary information is available online at the Canadian Forces website.

“Once they send an application to the recruiting centre they will be contacted by a recruiter to set up an interview, a physical fitness test, also a written exam, for suitability reasons all of those things are prerequisites before the processing stage is finished”.

Youth who graduate from the Bold Eagle program also have the option of pursuing a full time military career.
