Saskatchewan’s uranium mining industry has signed a major agreement with India.

The deal between Cameco and the Department of Atomic Energy of India was made official today in Ottawa.

The deal is for It’s for 7.1-million pounds of uranium until 2020, with the option of extending the deal beyond that.

The announcement was made as the Prime Minister of India is in Canada for a three day visit.

India’s nuclear energy program is second only to China’s in its scale with 21 reactors currently in operation.

India expects to supply 25-percent of its electricity from nuclear power by 2050.
