A public inquest is scheduled to begin today in Regina into a tragedy on Kahkewistahaw First Nation nearly two years ago.
In August of 2013, 6-year-old Lee Allen Bonneau was found badly injured on the reserve and later died.
Police ruled his death a homicide and arrested another boy under the age of 12.
Because of his age the boy cannot be held criminally responsible and has since been placed under the care of the Ministry of Social Services.
Bonneau had been in foster care and was visiting with his foster mother when his death took place.
The inquest will allow a coroner’s jury to hear all the evidence around Bonneau’s death in order to make recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future.
