A man charged after gunshots were fired at Mistawasis First Nation in September 2013 will face no jail time.
52 year-old Daivd Ledoux had originally been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault as a result of the incident.
According to the courts, 4 men entered Ledoux’s property in a pickup truck where they engaged Ledoux’s son in a fight. Ledoux then grabbed his rifle and scared the men off. As they were driving away the 52 year-old fired several shots at the vehicle striking the vehicle itself a few times.
In a Prince Albert courtroom Thursday morning the charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault against Ledoux were dropped. He instead pleaded guilty to the lesser offense of unlawfully pointing a firearm and mischief.
The judge sentenced him with a one year conditional sentence, which requires a curfew and a ban on alcohol and firearms. The judge said Ledoux’s actions are inexcusable under the law, but are understandable based on the situation.
Ledoux also made a charitable contribution to the Mistawasis School as a part of his sentence.
