A grass fire that broke out north of the Prince Albert landfill Wednesday afternoon is believed to be human caused.
After the fire broke out fire fighters from Buckland and Prince Albert had the blaze under control before 8pm.
Val Nicholson from Saskatchewan Environment says initial investigations point to the fire as human caused.
“There’s only two things that start wild fires generally speaking and that is lightning or people,” said Nicholson. “We haven’t had any lightning, so we are assuming it is human caused in some fashion and investigators are looking into it as to what caused the fire.”
Nicholson says as of Thursday morning the fire is 70 percent contained and the crews are continuing to make progress.
Officials are still asking people to stay away from the area because their presence could hamper the efforts of the fire fighters.
