The Prince Albert Fire Department hopes a new emergency alert service will get accurate and urgent information out to residents as soon as possible.
The city is taking the next couple months to get residents to sign up for PA Alert, which they will use to create a database to notify people when emergency situations arise.
“PA Alert is a pretty powerful tool and it is going to be the most effective way to get information out in an emergency,” said Fire Chief Jason Everitt. “We will reach more people and we’ll be able to do it faster than ever before. The service is already set up, all we need now is for people to take a minute to register.”
The service already uses the city’s telephone listings, but they are asking residents to provide more information.
“If you prefer text messages or email you will need to create an account,” said Everitt. “Though an account you can also customize the properties you wish to be notified about.”
The program is expected to cost the city $5,600 a year.
The Alert System will begin with a test on May 30 and will go live after that date.
