There’s a new group of social justice fighters in Saskatoon.
Last year a group of Saskatoon residents created an organization that advocates for social, environmental, and economic justice.
They call themselves the Treaty 6 Justice Collective.
The collective was formed last year in response to government cutbacks to social justice agencies and programs.
Spokesperson Michelle Beveridge says the group chose the name to recognize the Treaty 6 territory.
“We wanted to have a name that reflected some of the principles of the group that was involved,” says Beveridge. “One of those principles was to acknowledge that we are on Treaty 6 land.”
The group launched a twenty thousand dollar fundraising campaign today to help a Saskatoon bookstore with renovation costs.
The renovated building will also be the home to The Stand – Community Organizing Centre.
