Wild rice harvesters in the province’s north continue to sign up for crop insurance despite a decline in interest in recent years.

Collen Rooney, with Saskatchewan Crop Insurance, says they have seen a consistent number of harvesters registering for the insurance this year.

She says 50 wild rice harvesters signed up for the insurance, a slight increase from last.

“They’re pleased with the program. It’s consistent with the enrolment as the producers continue to make it part of their risk management strategy. So they’re remaining in the program.”

The deadline for harvesters to apply for this year’s crop insurance was on March 31.
