A class of 10 candidates graduated from pipefitting school in Saskatoon yesterday.
The Aboriginal pipefitters are now first-year apprentices who will work for CIMS Canada until they put in 7,200 hours to earn their journeyman ticket.
CIMS Saskatchewan General Manager Todd Verbeke says his company is committed to this unique training and employment program.
“By supporting initiatives like this, it ensures that we can secure contracts to keep these people employed. It’s very much a partnership between industry, the students, the education system and the government.”
The training program was an eight-week course that included welding and working under indoor and outdoor conditions.
