Aboriginal students in northern Saskatchewan can now take advantage of a big scholarship, thanks to a collaboration between Indspire and Cameco.

The scholarship is valued at up to $7,500 with the opportunity to renew each year.

“It’s not a definitive number of students that can be involved in the scholarships, it’s going to depend on what the applications look like,” says Cameco’s Jonathan Huntington.  “It’s going to depend on the values that are assigned, so I encourage students to not worry about a potential quota number because right now it really is up to the applications that come in.”

The scholarship is open to students studying a wide variety of subjects at various institutions. Emma Sim, who is currently doing her Masters degree in Native Studies at the University of Saskatchewan, received the scholarship in the past and she says it meant a lot to her.

“It was really exciting,” says Sim.  “The application process was actually a lot easier than I expected.  Indspire is really good about understanding that you need funds for different things at different times.”

The deadline for applications is Monday, June 1.  More information can be found at indspire.ca.
