Cameco has been presented a national award for their work in getting First Nations and Metis people in the workforce.
The first ever Indigenous Workplace Inclusion awards were given out in Toronto yesterday and Cameco received the award for Enterprise-Wide leadership in the Performance Category.
Kelly Lendsay, President of the Aborignal Human Resource Council, says Cameco was a good fit because they hold themselves accountable to hiring First Nation employees.
“There is clear goals and a communication system in Cameco to work together across the departments for this purpose,” said Lendsay. “From the top down Aboriginal or Indigenous inclusion is something that permeates right through the organization.”
Lendsay says Cameco did $370 million dollars of business with Aboriginal business in 2014 and that 27% of their workforce is of Aboriginal decent.
The award was given out in Toronto on Thursday.
