A former First Nations politician is taking a run at provincial politics.  Lyle Whitefish has been nominated to represent the NDP in the riding of Saskatchewan Rivers.

It was a big nomination meeting on Friday night that even brought out party leader Cam Broten.

Whitefish is a former FSIN Vice Chief.  He is currently the principal of the Mistah Sipiy Elementary School on the Big River First Nation and has taught school both on and off reserves.  He says education fairness is a big part of his campaign.

“My biggest goal and aspiration is to bring quality education to our communities, infrastructure dollars and of course the quality education every child needs.”

Whitefish says a key to an election win is getting the First Nations vote out.  The riding is currently held by the Saskatchewan Party’s Nadine Wilson. She has represented the constituency since 2007.  Before Wilson was elected, it was an NDP riding.

Party Leader Cam Broten welcomes Whitefish to the campaign.  He says Whitefish will be a strong voice for what matters to all families in the Saskatchewan Rivers constituency.
