It’s too early to say how long a downtown pharmacy and medical clinic in La Ronge will be closed following a fire this morning.
Both the Harbour Pharmacy and La Ronge Medical Clinic have been closed until further notice.
La Ronge fire chief Ron Pratt says the alarm came in at 5:26 this morning.
Pratt says the fire was contained to the pharmacy, but it was heavily damaged.
“The building is pretty much intact. The pharmacy, Harbour Pharmacy, is pretty much gutted. And the clinic side of it is pretty much only smoke-damaged.”
He also says there is nothing to indicate it was a suspicious fire.
“We believe there is an electrical cause, but we have to have more testing done to come up with something more conclusive.”
It’s hoped the Harbour Pharmacy can resume services at the La Ronge Health Centre on Tuesday.
In the meantime, anyone needing medication for the long weekend is being told to go to the pharmacy at Giant Tiger.
The local health region says updates on the clinic and the pharmacy will be posted on the region’s website and the clinic’s Facebook page.
