A home built by high school students in Saskatoon was transferred to Whitecap Dakota First Nation Friday morning.
This is the fourth home built under the High School Carpentry Apprenticeship Program where students get credit for the work they complete on the home.
The program sees students construct homes that are then transferred to Whitecap Dakota First Nation.
Chief Darcy Bear attended Friday morning’s celebration to announce a continuation of the current partnership with Saskatoon Public Schools.
“The first 5 years has been successful for us because there are families getting affordable housing and students are getting education and skills,” said Chief Bear. “It’s a win-win for both parties and that’s why we signed on for another 5 years.”
The program is held at Mount Royal Collegiate in Saskatoon.
