The small Nekaneet First Nation southeast of Maple Creek is expanding its horizons to include a small piece of Regina.
Last night Regina city council approved plans to allow the band to establish an urban reserve on the city’s northwest outskirts.
It will be home to a gas bar and convenience store.
The First Nation already owns surface rights to the land, but still needs federal approval in order to get the project started.
There are fewer than 200 people that live on the reserve and only about band 480 members in total.
The urban reserve would be the fifth one for the city of Regina.
