The third annual Walk of Hope began in Prince Albert Friday morning.
Organizer Conrad Burns began his walk at City Hall in Prince Albert and will make a 450 kilometre trek over the next 7 days to the Provincial Legislature in Regina.
Burns says he was inspired to do these walks because of the stories he has heard from the women in his life.
“I have realized I can’t be there for every step of it, but I can show support by doing something like the walk of hope,” said Burns.
The walk is a part of the Rise Up against violence social media campaign that began this week. Burns says the campaign has been going great so far.
“We are getting a lot of community involvement and as it goes one we are getting more exposure and things are starting to snowball,” said Burns.
“It’s good to see ‘Rise Up’ showing up on people’s hands on Facebook and everywhere else.”
People are encouraged to write the words ‘Rise Up’ on their hands use #RiseUpStopAbuse when posting to social media.
Burns also says people are welcome to join him on the walk. While he did say he is glad the sun is shining, he is hoping for a few clouds to prevent sunburn.
