Justice Murray Sinclair told a crowd of human rights workers Canadians need to be re-educated about the settler – First Nations relationship in the country.
The head of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission says Canadians have been mis-educated about Indian Residential Schools.
Justice Murray Sinclair says the public education system has been teaching kids aboriginal history that has contributed to racism in this country.
They teach about the savagery of aboriginal people without talking about their own savagery, says Sinclair.
Throughout Sinclair’s speech he provided examples of how the Canadian government viewed the learning abilities of Indigenous children.
Sinclair says a report described the children as intellectually and culturally inferior.
He closed his speech saying he is amazed we don’t have higher rates for things like suicides and addiction.
