Additional funding from the federal government is allowing MBC to produce new original content in Aboriginal languages.

Canadian Heritage has announced MBC is receiving a grant of $380,815 for the 2015-2016 fiscal year — a 20 per cent increase over last year ($317,880).

Northern Saskatchewan MP Rob Clarke says MBC’s mandate and reach make this a worthwhile investment.

“The interesting thing about MBC is that it’s not-for-profit,” he says.  “It services northern Saskatchewan, even in the furthest remote areas of northern Saskatchewan.  But MBC doesn’t just hit northern Saskatchewan, it also hits in the city centres, too.”

The new funds will allow MBC to provide 20 additional hours per week of original Aboriginal languages programming.
